Senator Minchin retires

Wed 24 Mar 2010

The ALSF has today congratulated Senator the Hon Nick Minchin for his distinguished career and for his commitment to fighting for freedom in the Australian Senate.

“Few have shown dedication to the cause like Senator Minchin,” said ALSF President Alex Butterworth.

“While Ministers from all sides have crumbled under the temptation to start new government programs and fund everything they can with taxpayer dollars, Senator Minchin's time in Cabinet and in the Senate has been spent making government less intrusive,” Mr Butterworth said.

“Senator Minchin has always shown an eagerness for developing young people on the centre-right of Australian politics."

"In the short-term, the Senate will be poorer for his absence, but is a better place for having had him. In the long-term, the many shining lights on the Liberal side of politics, having been mentored by Senator Minchin, will prove to be a formidable force for the Labor Socialists in both the Senate and the House," Mr Butterworth said.

The ALSF wishes Senator Minchin all the best for his life beyond politics.
